‭Matthew 28:19 TLV‬ [19] Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, immersing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Ruach ha-Kodesh,

What is Matthew talking about here? What does it mean to be a disciple and how do we make them? I am just going to give my thoughts about the subject. I am not a teacher of men, I am a disciple of Yeshua.

So what does Disciple mean: according to Strong’s concordance the definition of disciple is to make a disciple of, train in discipleship, pass, to be trained, discipled, instructed. So to be a disciple you need to be a student. You need to let go of your pre conceived thoughts and ideas and become moldable. The disciples of Yeshua written about in the gospels were students of Messiah. What did he teach them? He taught them the practical application of what they had been trained in their whole lives. They had been trained from childhood in the Torah. The Torah is YHWH’s instructions, His LAW.

So since they knew the Torah it was easier for them to learn what Messiah was teaching them because they already had a foundation of understanding. They just needed more direction on how to put it into action. This isn’t the case today though. Sadly our religious system is full of the doctrines of men and not YHWH. The man made traditions are more important then the Scriptures in the Bible. People throw up the “Saved by grace” card to explain their actions. That is another topic though and not where I am today.

As a Mom I am responsible for training my son in the Torah (rules) of the household. There are consequences for both good and bad behavior. As a wife I am to accept my husband’s role as the head of the home. I am not to go behind his back and let our son do things he isn’t allowed to do. I can help my sisters in Messiah stay accountable in their relationships with both their husbands and Messiah. I can at times even reproof my own husband if he needs it. If it is done from a place of submission, respect and honor then it will be accepted.

Yeshua used Parables to teach the Torah to both his disciples and the nations. Those who understood it followed Him. To be a disciple is to follow the teacher. Observe the way he lives, the way he talks, the way he teaches. It means to put into practice what you are learning and shedding your old ways. To be immersed is to be made new. The simple act of immersion signifies that you understand the lessons you’ve been learning and are ready to follow with your whole being and truly be repentitive of your sins.

Once we have a grasp on the lessons we have learned then we can go and share it with others. We share with other by our actions, by our integrity and by being examples.

I hope this has blessed you and if you have any questions or comments. Feel free to reach out.

Shalom: Kimberley
